Emperor's Champion is the honorary title of the Emperor's Champion in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. It refers to a chosen elite warrior of the Black Templars order. On the eve of a battle, a Black Templar may receive a vision from the Emperor, which commands him to defeat the enemy's most powerful fighters in single combat. Once the vision is confirmed by the Order's chaplains, the warrior becomes the Emperor's champion.
The presence of a champion on the battlefield serves as an inspiration for the rest of the battle brothers, inspiring the entire squad to perform acts of valor. Even if the champion dies on the battlefield (which is considered a bad omen), their name and deeds are recorded and remembered for all time.

The tradition of the title dates back to the time of the Horus Heresy, but by the 41st millennium, the title was primarily held by the descendants of Rogal Dorn, the Imperial Fists and their successor orders, most notably the Black Templars. The first champion of the Emperor was Captain Sigismund of the Imperial Fists, who was awarded the title by Primarch Rogal Dorn during the attack on the Imperial Palace.
In battle, the Emperor's champion must find and challenge the commander of the enemy forces to a duel, in order to fight them (or her) in the Emperor's name. According to tradition, there can only be one Emperor's champion in an order at a time, and in the case of the Black Templars, there can only be one champion in a single crusade. The Emperor's Champion receives the following:
- Faith Armor is a unique power armor equipped with protection seals and hatred catechisms. It provides greater protection than any regular power armor set.
- The Black Sword is a massive two-handed power sword blessed by the Order's chaplains. It allows for both one-handed and two-handed combat, enabling swift side and thrusting attacks or slower but more powerful slashing strikes.
Weapons and armor are considered sacred, and if a champion dies, the order goes on crusades to reclaim their treasured equipment.
